Real Therapy for Real People: Culturally Responsive, Neurodivergent-Affirming, and Trauma-Informed
I’m Maria Suarez, LCSW — a Puerto Rican therapist raised in New York City and now offering telehealth therapy across Hawaii, Arizona, and Washington. I specialize in working with people who are burnt out, emotionally exhausted, and craving something deeper than surface-level self-care.
My work is rooted in liberation, cultural awareness, and neurodivergent-affirming care. I’ve worked in Child Protective Services, IOPs, and trauma programs in Arizona and Hawaii. I use EMDR, Brainspotting, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients unlearn survival mode and reconnect to their worth.
Whether you’re a therapist, a helper, or someone who’s always been the strong one, therapy doesn’t have to be performative. It can be real. It can be yours.

Ready to begin, but not sure what to say?
You don’t need the perfect words. Just a moment of courage. If this resonates with you. that’s enough. I’d be honored to walk with you from here.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes — I accept insurance through Headway and Rula, including plans like HMSA, Aetna, Cigna, and United. I also accept HMSA Quest (Medicaid) in Hawaii. If you’re unsure about your coverage, I’ll walk you through what’s possible.
Do you see teens, adults, or both?
I primarily work with adults (18+), but I also see teens in specific cases — especially those navigating identity, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, or academic stress. Feel free to reach out if you’re not sure where you or your teen fits.
How often will we meet?
Most clients meet with me weekly or biweekly, depending on goals and what you’re navigating. We’ll collaborate on a rhythm that works for you — therapy shouldn’t feel like another pressure point.
What’s your cancellation or no-show policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel. Missed or late-cancel sessions may be subject to a fee unless there’s an emergency. We’ll go over this in more
